Vemuri S Murthy, MD, MS, FAHA, FICS
Dr. Vemuri Murthy is an Alumnus of Guntur Medical College, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (General Surgery) and Rush University, Chicago (Anesthesiology). An international Faculty of the American Heart Association (AHA), he is a Resuscitation Expert involved with teaching, training and research in the USA and India for more than three decades. He is currently an Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Illinois College Medicine, Chicago.
Dr. Murthy, regarded as “Pioneer of Resuscitation Medicine in India”, piloted a national model of mandatory resuscitation curriculum in Indian Medical Colleges (2012). He is a visiting Professor at Medical Institutions such as AIIMS, chaired International Resuscitation Conventions and guided the ground-breaking Indian Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest Research (“Warangal Area Cardiac Arrest Registry”).
Dr. Murthy served the US Organized Medicine in leadership positions such as the President of the Chicago Medical Society and Indian American Medical Association, Illinois. He is the Founder of the community CPR Project SMILE (Saving More Illinois Lives through Education) of the Chicago Medical Society (CMS), which is commended by the US Congressmen and International dignitaries. The Chicago Indian Consulate and US Congressman officially released his Indo-US multi-lingual community CPR brochures.
Dr. Murthy is the recipient of several prestigious awards such as Medal from the US Congressmen as a “Global Champion of Resuscitation”, ‘Lifetime Achievement Award”, “Distinguished Physician Award” (IAMA), “Most Distinguished Service Award” (AAPI) and “Henrietta Herbolsheimer Award” (CMS). Indian Medical Association instituted an Annual Lecture honoring his contributions to Resuscitation Medicine.
